 Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead got candid with Variety about their on screen reunion seven years after their alleged affair scandal which rocked both of their marriages.

The 53-year-old Obi-Wan star and 39-year-old Scott Pilgrim Vs The World actress put on a sweet display as they were featured on the cover of the latest edition of the American weekly.

The two can soon be seen on the  Paramount+ on Showtime series based on Amor Towles' 2016 novel as they revealed that it was McGregor's idea for them to work together on screen again.

Winstead said: 'Ewan was reading the novel and he started slyly mentioning to me, in very subtle ways, that there was a great female character in the book.

'He was definitely hinting to me that it could be a good opportunity for us to work together.'

Ewan portrayed Count Alexander Rostov while Mary starred as his onscreen wife Mary Urbanova.

The series will mark the third on-screen collaboration between Mary and her husband, following 2017's Fargo and 2020's Birds of Prey.

The two originally met on set of the FX series in 2016 and though the two have since married in 2022 and share a two-year-old son named Laurie together, their public relationship began under very controversial circumstances. 

Ewan was married to Eva Mavrakis for 22 years until their split in May 2017 - they shares daughters Clara, Jamyan, Esther and Anouk.

The actor met Mary when they were both working on Fargo in late 2016 when Ewan was still married to Eva and Mary was still with her ex-husband Riley Stearns.

They were pictured kissing London café in October 2017 and later announced he had been separated Eva since May.

In the ensuing couple of years, Clara infamously denounced Mary as 'a piece of trash' and fumed that her father was an 'a**hole.'

Clara later expressed regret over her unfiltered remarks about Mary, and the blended family has evidently arrived at a rapprochement.

In December, 28-year-old Clara shared a gallery of snaps from Christmas which featured mom Eve, dad Ewan, and stepmom Mary Elizabeth. 

As his character in A Gentleman In Moscow becomes a caretaker for a young girl, Ewan told Variety about how parenthood not only shaped the way he approached this role but also how it changed his life completely.

He said: 'I have five children and one of my daughters is adopted. I realized while we were shooting, like, "Oh, this is an adoption story." I like that part of it because I love that part of my life.

'I think it’s true that we are two different people before we have children and after we have children — you don’t have this responsibility to another human life, you don’t ever experience it until somebody calls you Dad.'

Winstead also got candid about juggling motherhood and long days on set as she explained: 'Everything’s so frantic having a baby at home.

'When you’re off set, you’re just a parent. You don’t really have time to think about how you feel about the character right now. You’re just thrown into bath [time] and dinner. 

'I don’t analyze things nearly as much as I did. You don’t have the time to sit and overanalyze and stew and worry and all of those things. You just have to show up and kick yourself into gear.'
